Glory
The movie Glory is the story of the Fifty-Fourth Massachusetts Infantry. Since the beginning of the Civil War, free Black people were ready to gather arms on behalf of the Union, yet they were prevented from doing so. By the fall of 1862, however, the lack of White Union enlistment and the numerous confederate victories forced the U.S. government to reconsider its racist policy. In January of 1863,the Secretary of War authorized the enlistment of Black troops. As a result, the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer infantry was founded, becoming one of the first all-Black Union regiment raised in the north.
