Peer Pressure is a challenge many of us face in our everyday lives. Peer pressure socially influences us to act similar to our peers. Because we can be influenced, we are also consciously conforming to the ways of the group. Many of us give into peer pressure because we want to be accepted.
Peer pressure is a social influence that forces us to act similar to our peers. Peer pressure is very challenging, it forces us to make decisions that we may not agree with. Doris Lessing, a world known writer, also labeled as "the best woman novelist," observes "among our most shameful memories is this often we said that black was white because other people were saying it" (308). We conform to a group without questioning whether the idea or situation is right or wrong. Many don't state their own opinion, and just do anything that the group does. Instead of standing up to our peers, we back down and become afraid to speak our mind. That can be very challenging, and can motivate us to pick up bad habits.
