Foreword
Introduction:
In his book Dragon’s Egg, written in 1980, Robert L. Forward provided his perspective of life elsewhere in the universe. Although the story was written over twenty years ago, the technical aspects of the book still hold true to the knowledge of the twenty-first century (Aylott).
sdfgfive days for the cheela equaling one Earth second, or in larger terms, one Earth hour is equal to thousands of years in cheela time. By the time the story ended, the life on Dragon’s Egg had been in existence for only a half a million years, and yet they were already more advanced than Earth beings, who have been in existence for about 7,000 times that. Because the cheela live at a much faster rate than humans, the story gives Earthlings an intriguing look at the rapid evolution of a species.
Cheela lifestyles and beliefs were also parallel to that of humans. The female cheela lay eggs, but instead of caring for the hatchlings, as they are called, the elders are designated that task. The cheela also developed their own religion, which involved the concept of a supreme being as well as the concept of a heaven. One of the cheela named Pink Eyes even went around “healing” and comforting others, and was eventually killed.
