Antigone
Antigone
The tale of Antigone, Oedipus and his two sons have already died. Polyneices and Eteocles,
left to battle for the throne of Thebes. In their combat for the throne, the two brothers slaughter
eachother, leaving Creon to be the ruler of Thebes. With his power, Creon announces that
Polyneices must be left to decay on the scene of battle; he is the humiliation to any Greek. Antigone,
daughter of Oedipus, is left hurt and torn between government of family, and in the end, chooses
family over government. Aside from Creon's judgment with extreme danger to herself, Antigone
puts herself in great danger to bury the body of Polyneices. Antigone is in fact, a tragic hero,
characterized by her position as son of Oedipus, and her arrogant and perhaps conceited
characteristics which will lead to her ultimate, unexpected, tragic ending. At the beginning of her
tale, Antigone is the child of monarchy, but more obvious then that, daughter of a dreadful tragedy:
through a dreadful story, her father, Oedipu
