Affirmative Action
Affirmative Action is a term used very vaguely nowadays. There are three different meanings to the term Affirmative action. The first meaning refers to the term Affirmative recruitment. Affirmative recruitment is used when an employer or school strongly encourages minorities to apply themselves to a job or college/university. Another meaning refers to the term Affirmative fairness. This term is used when an employer or college administrator takes extreme precautions to make sure all are treated fairly.
The third and last term used to describe Affirmative Action is Affirmative preference. This term is referred to when someone with the “right” sex or race is preferred for a job/school opportunity over someone who is the “wrong” sex or race. Though the main argument for Affirmative Action was to create equal opportunity for people in the workforce and for students seeking admission into higher education, it made possible the hiring of unqualified workers, and reverse discrimination, that result in unfair standards in the workforce.
