Cultural Relativism vs. Subjective Relativism

    In the U.S. Christianity is the most popular religion and in most Christian religions abortions have always been considered murder and inhumane while at the same time sex has always been explained to be something sacred for married couples to reproduce. In today’s society, however, abortions are legal and can be done at any time during a pregnancy and sex is socially acceptable even on the first date to many. Which viewpoint is right- are people supposed to uphold the values that have been passed down for generations or do they obey what a common man has set forth in today’s society? It’s almost a trick question; do a supposed God’s rules surpass the majority vote of a culture? People today want laws to be a collective standpoint but at the same time they want to do what’s most convenient for them and be able to justify it removing all recourse of guilt and regret. Does a culture have a right to refute the dominant religion and designate what is good or bad for a certain individual? Obviously, what is considered good for one person is not always good for another. Where can we draw the line between obeying ourselves individually, and maintaining our culture?
