All Quiet on the Western Front
No matter what way you look at war it’s something that is going to have a profound effect on you both physically and psychologically. This is true for the people back home encountering the war simply through the media but, the men that are actually faced with the challenge of fighting the battle for their country, have the most stress and wear and tear put on them out of everyone involved with a war. With the group of soldiers in All Quiet on the Western Front it was especially hard for them. This was because the entered the war with friendships from the school days.
The soldiers are always faced with the ever present possibility of being killed by an explosion of a shell or a bullet. On top of the fighting, there is a problem with the living conditions. The living conditions were never good, sometimes home for the night was a ditch with water, rats and even a dead body every now and was the perfect place for catching a disease. They are often on the go so they are deprived of sleep as well their meals.
