    American Dream of Freedom & Democracy After the civil war and the Reconstruction, America started out to become the greatest nation in the world. Every Americans lived with an American dream of freedom and democracy, the dream that sustained life of every individual regardless of color, background, sex or age. However this American dream was not easy to come by for all. Some were more fortunate than others but those who were less fortunate were brave and courageous enough to make their dream come true. By the late 1960’s America had become the ‘land of the free and home of the brave’ – a nation that redefined the concept of freedom and democracy. The era of industrialization that followed the Reconstruction helped people think about themselves as true individual that can make some changes in the whole world. People were free and able before but the concept of freedom was so narrow that even a wealthy white man was able to pass that narrowness without stumbling. Black people who were already discriminated because of slavery were the biggest victim of circumstances. Although various laws were passed justifying and enforcing the freedom of blacks and women, the practice of freedom was very much limited. Gradually people
