Personal Story- Additcion/Denial
Denial
Denial 1: refusal to satisfy a request or desire 2 a (1): refusal to admit the truth or reality (as of a statement or charge) (2): assertion that an allegation is false b: refusal to acknowledge a person or a thing. (As described in the Merriam-Webster, dictionary.) Denial is actually a common state of mind among those in our civilization. One of the more common denials that people hold is that of a substance abuse difficulty.
In my short life, I’ve seen a lot of damage done by alcohol and drugs. I can’t help but wonder why someone would continue to drink the deadly poison that consumes more than just him or herself but also consumes their families and communities. Or why someone would continue to buy that crack, the same crack that is ruining their life, keeping them from the life they are so depressed to not have, and keeping the son they miss so much away. It may seem like such an elementary solution to just put the glass of tequila or the pipe down, but yet an addict just can’t seem to grasp it.
