Oklahoma City Memorial
The Oklahoma City Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was bombed by a local terrorist named Timothy McVeigh. The bombing destroyed and collapsed half of the building killing 168 people including 19 children on April 19th 1995. McVeigh bombed the building because he belonged to an extreme white supremacist group and two of the groups’ heroes were scheduled to be executed that same day. The victims included workers in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building as well as some of their children that were in the daycare that day.
The memorial was decided to be done in 1997 as a way to remember those who were lost in the bombing as well as those who survived and it is also a way to reflect upon what has happened. It was funded by the federal government to become a national monument. The memorial was created by Hanz and Torrey Butzer along with construction teams from Waterton, Massachusetts and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They began construction in 1999, about four years a
