    To Tree or Not to Tree? A trend that seems to be growing is the act of deforestation. “The statistics paint a grim picture. According to the World Resources Institute, more than eighty percent of the Earth’s natural forests already have been destroyed” (www.nationalgeographic.com 1). In recent years, the mid-south portion of Tennessee has experienced this devastating trend. On a global level, everyone is effected. From a tribal member who lives in a tropical rain forest in Brazil to a local resident of middle Tennessee can be effected. Deforestation’s n negative effects on the world far outweigh the positive outcomes. The evidence of what deforestation is, how it effects the world, and the types of deforestation can help describe a dark picture of the future. When having a discussion on deforestation, some might not be too familiar with what his term actually means. “Deforestation is the permanent destruction of indigenous forests and woodland” (www.botany.uwc l).
