“In most hero stories, the hero is introduced in ordinary surroundings, in a mundane world, doing mundane things. Generally, the hero begins as a non-hero; innocent, young, simple, or humble” (Seger319) This is certainly true of the main hero Frodo Bagains of Lord of the Rings. Frodo’s opening scene in the movie sets the tone for his pre-hero image. The audience’s first glimpse of Fordo is of him sitting on a prairie of green grass on a beautiful sunny day reading a book beneath a tree.
