An Analysis of the Effects of the New Euro in Europe

    Introduction of the Euro On January 2002, twelve countries agreed to have a common currency, the euro. After three years of planning the union of the European currencies, in January 2002 the euro was introduced. Of the 15 European Union members, only 12 decided to join the EMU (economic and monetary union) forming what is called the euro zone. These countries are Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Portugal and Spain.
