Beowulf: An Insider In Society Beowulf is an Anglo-Saxon poem about a man named Beowulf who sleighs the seemingly invincible Grendel and his mother who wreak havoc on the land of the Danes. He then goes home to rule his home country and then he fights a dragon to his death to save his homeland from the dragon’s deadly fire. Throughout his life, Beowulf exhibits strength that superhuman and morals that are higher than all those around him. Beowulf is a hero in society because he has greater than human strength and morality higher than most of those around him. Even though he is set apart from the rest of society with these characteristics, he is still loved and respected by all and because of this, he is an insider in society. Beowulf exhibits superhuman strength throughout his entire life. “He has thirty men's heft of grasp in the gripe of his hand.” He uses his incredible strength to kill Grendel, a monster no man could kill, by using his bare hands. “ His strength he trusted, hand-gripe of might. So man shall do whenever in war he weans to earn him lasting fame, nor fears for his life!” Even though his strength sets him apart from most other men, he only uses his strength for the good of the people.
