Neo/Jesus Comparison

    The premise of The Matrix is this: at the end of the Twentieth Century humankind invented an artificial intelligence which soon spawned a race of machine that overtook the planet. In an effort to combat this evil army, humans ignited the atmosphere and blackened the sky because scientists believed that this would render these solar-powered machines useless. Instead, these machines found a new source of energy in human body heat which they harvest in massive power plants. To keep the crop of captive humans from revolting they are mentally inter-networked into a near-interactive virtual reality called “The Matrix,” which simulates earth as we currently know it (Fontana 3). Like being in a continuous dream which imitates life, all humans believe that they are living out normal lives when they are in fact strapped into a small pod fueling the very power source that keeps them enslaved. At some point before the action of the film begins a man was born inside of The Matrix who became aware of the situation and somehow managed to free himself and others.
