In 1972 a law entitled Title IX was passed with the hopes of helping sexual discrimination become no more. Looking at thirty years since the enactment of Title IX many women have made great gains in education and employment, and these gains represent a great deal of work by many American men and women, but is there still more work to do? America began the long process of eradicating discrimination based on gender and has since moved forward. There have been peaks and valleys in this process, and we cannot ignore the reality the in equality and discrimination still remain in 2004. Is the public having a fair chance to have equal rights in education, employment, and in athletics? In order to fully understand this law an in depth a description of what Title IX is about, the loss in education and the discrimination against Men will be shown and proven.
The first line in Title IX states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” What exactly does all this mean?
