The Bleeding Heart is a very beautiful plant and simple to maintain, but come to close it can be deadly. In some rare cases only touching the plant can cause reactions to the epidermis, but that is not what concerns people it is the full ingestion of any part of the plant that has the tremendous reaction. Convulsions, drowsiness, and even death occur with the ingestion of the Bleeding Heart. These symptoms have only occurred in cattle and other rodents. Postmortem examination of mice showed collapsed lungs, blue extremities, and a distended heart. Death was likely due to respiratory paralysis.
