Sophocles' Antigone, portrays women as being strong and capable of making their own decisions. In this famous greek tragedy, Sophocles utilizes the characters of Antigone and Ismene to illustrate the different characteristics and roles that women can play. Traditionally women are characterized as weak and subordinate and Ismene is portrayed in this way.
