Tutorial Question 3 - What do radical feminists mean when they say 'the personal is political'? What are the implications for politics?
The above tutorial question will be discussed in this assignment. It will attempt to explain what radical feminism is, how it comes about and how the phrase 'the personal is political' places implications on politics.
Feminism - the belief that such injustices must be corrected. It is the committment to work towards a world where women are treated better than they are presently treated. Where as Radical Feminism, stresses that in a social order dominated by men, the process of changing sexual oppression must, as a political necessity, involve a focus on women. It is not drawn directly from previous bodies of "malestream or mainstream" thought. It derives a real challenge to add rejection of liberal orientation towards the world of man. It gives a positive value towards womanhood rather than supporting a notion which is associated with putting women into activites with men. It specifically pays attention to 'women's oppression as women' in social order dominated by men.
