How to Punt a Football
Punting a football is not as hard as everyone thinks it is, although concentration is a primary requirement. In order to achieve a nice, smooth, spiral trajectory, one must drop the football and swing their leg the same way every time. First of all, the proper grip is with one hand on the nose of the football. Make sure and put your thumb in the top seem, your middle finger in the middle seem and your pinky in the bottom seem. The drop must be flat, as if sitting on top of a table, and slightly angled inward. My teacher told me that it is like rotating a straight line to 25 or 30 degrees inward. The ball fits perfectly on top of a pointed foot, as seen by placing it there. Finding the right drop for yourself is easy. Simply place the ball on top pointed directly forward, and slightly rotate it to fit snuggly on your foot. This should be how you drop the football every time, and this is why punters walk in a line and drop the ball over and over.
