Daw Aung San Suu Kyi Daw Aung San Suu is known as a political leader in her country. Suu Kyi was born in Yangon, Myanmar, which is now called Rangoon, Burma. Suu Kyi was the daughter of national leader General Aung San and Daw Khin Kyi. Suu Kyi father was assassinated July 19, 1947, two years after she was born.
