Book Review: “Olodumare; God in Yoruba Belief”
In the pioneering works of African religious scholarship and indigenous Western African writings of authors, such as E.B. Idowu, it has been shown that Africans are not so intellectually impoverished as to be lacking in a sophisticated conception of the “Supreme Being.” In Yoruba religion, such a “Being” is recognized and given a premier position or status. When looking into the Yoruba religion it is recognized that many of their recognized beings are very similar to those projected in Christian religious understandings. In Yoruba religion attributes such as omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, benevolence, divinity, and belief in a divine creator are very important aspects of a righteous individual.
