Nell This film is an intelligent examination of a doctor and his discovery of Nell; a woman who was raised in the woods with no contact except her speech impaired mother. The two doctors in the movie try to “take a fish out of water” and decipher her incomprehensible language and take her into the modern world. Nell has never been outside her own little world and is afraid of evil doers and fears being seen. Dr. Jerry Lovall and Dr. Paula Olson come to study Nell in the woods and they establish a friendship with Nell as if they were her parents. Before these two doctors come to discover the beauty and innocence of Nell the only people she has had contact with are her now dead mother and dead sister. Her mother suffered from a stroke presumably before her sister and Nell were born, so the only language she ever knew was her mother’s cut off language with her speech impediment from the stroke.
