“Hills Like White Elephants”
“ It’s really a simple operation, Jig” the man said. “ It’s not really an operation at all.” I know you wouldn’t mind it, Jig. It’s really not anything. It’s just to let the air in.” “ I’ll go with you and I’ll stay with you all the time. They just let the air in and then its all perfectly natural (Hem 648).” Is how Jig’s lover explains an abortion in “Hills Like White Elephants” written by Ernest Hemingway. I believe that Jig is looking forward to having a family of her own. However, her hopes, dreams, and plans are completely smashed by her estranged lover. Her lover uses many different styles to try and pursued Jig to have an abortion. I will show you why I believe that Jig wishes to have a baby, why her lover does not want the baby, and what ways he uses to try and convince Jig to have the abortion. Jig does not want to have this “Simple operation done”.
