Timothy ash response
Timothy Ash’s seemingly unproductive op-ed piece sides with his definition of a Blairite frame of mind, and criticizes Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and the American stance, as well as the “Chiraco-Putinesque idea,” as he puts it. While he is mostly accurate in criticizing the French stance on the situation in Iraq, there is a subtle sense of contradiction in his argument. He defends the Blair view of attempting to globalize the anti-terrorist stance, and in a sense, to create a partnership in support of America. He states that Blair’s fault was in not attempting to create this allegiance immediately post 9/11. Ash suggests that a new cold war of sorts be formed, only against international terrorism, and that the U.S. should not act unilaterally, with American Exceptionalism as its backing.
