Passover

    The Passover “From now on, this month will be the first and most important of the entire year (Exodus 12:2).” The Lord spoke these words to Moses and Aaron, referring to the month Israel was delivered from Egypt, where they had been slaves for hundreds of years. The account of the exodus involves a sting of events that all contributed to the Israelites being freed. There, however, was one catastrophic event that changed the course of Israelite history. This event was the Passover; the night the Lord passed through Egypt and took the first-born son of every household that did not obey his commands. The Passover is very significant, as this paper will reflect. In the first verses of Exodus 12, the Lord tells Moses what will happen the night of the Passover. He also gives instructions to Moses for the people of Israel to follow so that when the Passover occurs, their houses will be passed by and theirs son’s lives spared. The instructions were very specific and it was clear that they took all of the stipulations into account when preparing for the Passover.
