Priscilla Merriman Evans
Priscilla Merriman Evans was born on May 4, 1835. Their family lived in Pernbrokeshire, Wales and four years later after Priscilla was born her father moved them ten miles away from that town. She had one sister who was two years older named Sarah. At the age of eleven Priscilla was taken out of school to learn the household chores. Their mother getting sick and someone had to learn how to take care of the family. Her mother died on November 8, 1851 and the ability to take care of a family fell upon her shoulders. Priscilla went to a morman meeting with her father and she started to change religions. Her father was highly against her joining the church but she joined it anyway. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints baptized her on February 26, 1852. On Sunday’s Priscilla would walk seven miles to Stepaside to go to the meetings. Around this time a missionary named Thomas Evans was sent up to the town she lives in. Priscilla was soon engaged to him. She was married on April 3, 1856 in Pernbroke, which was ten miles away from Tenby. They set sail on April 17, 1856 on the vessel S.S. Curling to go to Boston.
