    Fulfilling your needs and desires in Nikki Giovanni’s “Master Charge Blues” In Nikki Giovanni’s poem “Master Charge Blues” we are told a story of how a woman misses her mate and uses her master charge to escape the feeling of loneliness. Many of us have been through divorce, break-up or even just being alone. When a person is without someone that fulfills certain emotional and physical needs it can create a multitude of desires. “Desire is necessary—not only for art but for binding people together.”(Jong 95) This poem seems to be dealing with ways to cope with the absence of the one you love. I think that one possible theme for this poem may be that when the one you long for and desire most is not present you need to fulfill those desires in other ways, for instance shopping. The woman in this poem seems to be a very dependant woman and has a multitude of needs that cannot be fulfilled without her mate. In the first stanza she repeats the same lines over and over “ it
