Rape Is It Being Taken As Seriously As It Should
What is rape? Rape, regardless of who commits it, is a felony of sexual assault that leaves the victim injured and traumatized. Rape is a misleading term which describes a serious crime. Also is misunderstood and under reported. Rape is the common cause of dieases, physical and emotional injuries, and unwanted pregnancies.
Sexual assualt is an act of power and control and is not related to “sexual urge”. All forms of sexual assault are crimes including: verbal, visual, audio, and force. Over 683,000 women are raped per year (National Woman’s). 3% of rape cases have injures requiring over-night hospitalization (“Rape Fact Sheet”). That is 3 % too much. Out of all the victims of rape, 91% were female and 9% were male (National Woman’s). If the victim was drinking alcohol or taking drugs at the time of the attack, sexual assault is still a crime (“Sexual Assualt”).
Some people, mostly teens, take rape as a joke. And usually, they’re the ones who been raped or sexually assulted the most. Out of all the women who reported being raped, 54% were under the age of 18 (National Woman’s).
