Deckard, Is He a Replicant?
Ridley Scott’s creation of Blade Runner was very influential in many other movies based in futuristic urban areas. This praise came years after the film was first produced because, at first, many people did not understand the film and considered it a box office flop. After repeated viewings, more and more people began to understand the film and they were then able to appreciate it for its glimpse into the future. The glimpse into the future laid a basis for other movies to have a setting for their futuristic themes.
Often times, the director of a movie will purposely not finish the explanation of the plot in order to leave the viewer in awe, wondering what was to happen next, or wondering “who’s who and what’s what.” Ridley Scott does this in his movie, Blade Runner. He does this by making the viewer wonder whether or not the main character, Deckard, is in fact a replicant himself. Sent to kill the replicants inhabiting the year 2019 Los Angelos, Deckard may, too, be a replicant sent on a mission to get rid of his own kind.
