History-(original settlers and who lives there now!)
It is stated that little in actually known about the earliest indigenous cultures in Arizona. They believe that they lived in the region as earliest as 25,000 BC. A later culture known as the Hohokam was pit dwellers who constructed extensive irrigation systems that between AD 500-1450. Between the 11th and 14th century the Pueblo built many of the highly structured cliff dwellings that are said to be still standing. The Apache and the Navajo came to the area in c. 1300 from Canada. After Arizona came under Mexicans control following the Mexican war there war few settlers in Arizona. Only U.S mountain men, trappers and traders such as Kit Carson, according to the encyclopedia trapped beaver in the area, but other than that there were few settlers. In 1863, Arizona was finally organized as a separate territory, its’ temporary capital was at Fort Whipple. Prescott became the capital in 1865. The capital was moved to Tucson in 1867, back to Prescott in 1867, and then at last to Phoenix in 1889. The citizens of Arizona 80% Caucasian and nearly 20% Hispanic, there was 203,527 Native American in Arizona in 1990 it was the third highest population in the United States.
