Punk. What does that mean exactly? Technical definition: A rock form
characterized by aggressive volume, short, angry vocals and often bitter political or hopeless emotional content. Punk is a feeling that resides inside the individual. It lives and dies with them, and it causes others to do things they normally wouldn’t indulge in. It was born as a reaction to the bland, corporate rock of the 1970s. Early exponents of punk include Sex Pistols, The Clash, Ramones and Buzzcocks. Punk's recent revival is attributed to the dominance of sound-alike “alternative” bands.
Punk started in the 1970's as a thorn in mainstream music’s side. The reason punk is a thorn in the side of popular 70's music is because it didn’t require great skill, and it wasn’t always planned out. There is an argument about where punk music started and why it did. Some people think it was the Sex Pistols in the UK, while others think it was the Ramones in New York. Punks will actually argue for hours over this. Who cares though?! It’s music. It just so happens that Americans did it louder, faster, and heavier than any band in the UK could do it.
