Erin Brockovich
In a world where heroes don’t number too many, the story of Erin Brockovich is a worthy reminder of the power of the human spirit. The director, Steven Soderbergh, portrays the underdog, Erin, in her fight for the people by defying the odds. She struggles in life having “three kids with no husband, and no education.” An ordinary person can learn survival, persistence, and the power of hard work from the endeavors and battles that Erin fights to make a name for herself, despite her gender, class, and limited education.
Following a car accident that landed Erin no money, she tries to get a job to support her and her children. She starts to work at her lawyer, Ed Masry’s firm; where she discovers a cover up involving contaminated water in a local community , which is causing devastating illness among residents. Going door to door, Erin and Ed sign up over 600 plaintiffs, and go on to receive the largest settlement ever paid in a direct-action law suit in U.S. history. Erin and Ed begin an incredible fight that “brings a small town to its feet and a huge company to its knees” (Erin Brokovich 2).
Success does not come easy in life. All success is gained by knocking down obstacles that stand in the way of the grandiose
