Fight Club: More Than a Movie

The enlightenment that should have been aroused in everyone who saw the film Fight Club, was not evident. The people who did understand the movie and the messages it was portraying knew the messages already. The problem seemed to be that the people the film was appealing to, who needed to understand it and learn what it was trying to teach, were the same people who didn’t get it. The director uses many people and things as extended metaphors to act as something else, which generally is hard for most people to understand. The film was a great attempt to enlighten those in need, and it should be the duty of those who walk away from it with a greater understanding to relay its messages to the people the film talks about. In the movie Jack is supposed to represent the average person who was become dependent on his society and addicted to the vision of a “perfect” life. He spends an incredible amount of time and money on buying things that he doesn’t need. Some of the movie’s easier to understand messages come from his way of living. Tyler is Jack’s “imaginary” friend, and one of the main characters in which most messages stem from. Tyler is a perfect example of a metaphor played out through the whole movie.
