Medea
Medea is the granddaughter of Helios, the sun. Her father is Aeetes, the brother of Perses, Circe (the enchantress/ sorceress in the Odyssey who turns men into swine), and Pasiphae. Medea acquires her unusual powers quite naturally. Her mother is commonly called Idyia, daughter of Oceanus. Medea grows up in Colchis, the seaport and capital of Aea, the name of the country which her father rules. King Aeetes was so afraid of being injured by his daughter’s skillfulness in magic and sorcery, he threw her into prison. My means of her art she escaped and fled to the temple of Helios, her grandfather. Jason is the son Aeson. When Pelias usurped the throne and imprisoned Aeson and most of his descendants, Jason was smuggled off to centaur Chiron, who reared him secretly on Mt. Pelion. Later Pelias promised Jason his rightful kingdom if he would bring the Golden Fleece to Boeotia. Jason arrives in Colchis in search of the Golden Fleece, where Medea and he meet. The story of Medea tells of her continues love and loyalty towards Jason. After many years of being married, Jason betrays Medea. This betrayal of love and loyalty results in Medea revenge.
