The Last of Its Kind
As Jim got up at 8 o'clock Monday morning, he heard a loud "snap". He didn't think anything of it at the time, so he got up and went to the bathroom to do his morning duties. He stumbled out of the bathroom into the kitchen to make his usual bacon, eggs, and toast. Afterwards, he plopped himself in front of his brand new, state of the art computer to check his email and play his usual game of internet mini-golf. Again he heard the loud "snap" sound and then a faint scurrying outside his door, but it sounded as though the sound was crawling through a pipe of some sort. He jumped out of his chair and looked outside – no one.
Jim tends to be very paranoid when it comes to things happening out of the usual. He sat back down, on the edge of his seat, at his computer and continued to play his game of mini-golf. As he was watching the computer screen, an image was reflected through the monitor. Jim whirled around to find nothing, but heard deep, raspy, steady breathing like it was right in front of him.
He was very scared because he was living alone in an apartment for the first time in his life. He had always had a roommate or a parent to go to when he needed help, but now he was alone...and scared. He finally turned back
