Book to Film

    When a novel is very successful, a director usually wants to turn it into a film. Some of these transfers include Deadly Unna, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harry Potter and Looking for Alibrandi. When these transfers are made the director feels it is necessary to leave out scenes or change the dialogue, which will make the story small enough to make into a film. When the director cuts scenes and changes the script it’s done in a way to make sure the audience gets to see their favourite bits in the book and still show the important parts that form the story. Sometimes directors feel that it is necessary to change the events or details about the characters to make the film better. An example is the film Australian Rules that was based on the book Deadly Unna. In the book the main character Blacky, and his best mate Dumby Red, who had long hair, were both 14. In the film they are 17 and Dumby Red has got a shaved head. It’s changes like these that make you think when you watch the film, “Hey wait a minute I thought…” These feelings often end in disappointment. I would think that the director would know that the reason the book became so successful was because the people enjoyed it how it was. Making changes to something that
