Caesar's Influence on Cleopatra

    In the story of Caesar and Cleopatra, written by Bernard Shaw, is a beautifully expressed play of love and power. Caesar, one of the most powerful world leaders comes to Egypt in search of Pompey. Upon his arrival, meets beautiful Cleopatra, queen of Egypt and teaches her, in hopes and aspirations of making her a true queen. A true queen can be defined as a beautiful, mature, courageous woman; as well as being a good listener, a leader, and not a tyrant. Despite the fact that Caesar has a fatherly influence, and Cleopatra is influential, he does not succeed in making her a true queen. Although Cleopatra does have some of the qualities of a true queen, she does not have all of them. She abuses her powers, which does not make her fit to rule Egypt. In the play, Caesar strongly influences Cleopatra in many different ways, however does not succeed in making Cleopatra a true queen. In the play Caesar has a strong influence on Cleopatra because he acts like a fatherly figure towards her. In the beginning, Caesar is disguised as an old man, and Cleopatra expresses her frightened feelings about the Romans. He molds Cleopatra in a fatherly way, by telling her to stand up to her fears and face the Roman leader. Caesar states, ??
