How do the Witches Influence Macbeth Throughout the Play?
What role do the witches play and in what way do they affect Macbeth?
“Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.”
The Witch’s words were tantalizing and they enticed Macbeth to process his inner thoughts. They lived in their own supernatural world of incorrect judgement and complete corruption. They captured Macbeth into it destroying all sign of self-control leaving a diseased mind.
The witch’s immediate impression introduces; horror, mystery and disorder. As in Act one scene two they spontaneously tempt Macbeth to murder Duncan. They influence Macbeth into a confusing cage of lies and deceit, where he only hears what he wants to hear.
The Witch’s feed Macbeth information and show him visions they know he will misapprehend,
“Be bloody, bold and resololute; laugh to scorn The power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth.”
