Dawson
The verbal exchange between Joey and Dawson coveys much of the meaning of the two scenes from the Dawson’s Creek episode, The Kiss. However, the non verbal elements of the dialogue, music and camera shots are also important in shaping the meaning and viewers response. These features help to stir the viewer’s emotions and create an interest in the future of the characters now more complex relationship. Firstly in the opening scene Joey and Dawson, share a brief kiss, then pull away suddenly. This shows that the kiss has left them both unsure. Joey and Dawson remain close together and sustain eye contact, up until the conversation becomes awkward and Joey breaks the closeness and sits on the bed behind her.
