Citizen Kane
Citizen Kane Essay
Citizen Kane is a movie by Orson Welles. He also stars in the movie as Charles
Foster Kane. The movie is about a man named Charles Foster Kane and how his life and
thinking changed when he got taken from his family when he was still a little boy. He is
introduced to a world of wealth, power, and fame which also comes with corruption. The
whole movie makes the audience question who Kane really is because he doesn’t give the
audience any clue about him. He is so materialistic that we, everyone around him, and he,
himself, is blinded by who he is. I think this movie has a lot of symbolism in it and that’s
what leads us to who Kane really is.
Throughout the whole film, Kane and the people around him and even the
audience are trying to figure out who he really is, which is the major theme in this film.
There is this one scene near the end of the movie that, I think, unfolds who Kane is. That
scene is when Kane is begging Susan not to go and Susan ends up leaving him. After she
has left, he starts destroying everything in her room except this glass snowball. He stares
at it and says the word ‘rosebud’.
Everything in that scene is very significant
