Conflict Theory
Conflict Theory is a macrosociological theoretical perspective that is in many ways the mirror like image of functionalism. It is based on the work of Karl Marx, and reflects insights that were developed in the twentieth century notably by Ralf Dahrendorf, who was born in 1929, Pierre, who was born in 1930, and Randall Collins, who was born in 1941. Conflict Theory has dominated European sociology throughout most of the century and has been very popular in the United States since the mid-sixties.
Conflict theorists view society as an arena in which different individuals and groups struggle with each other in order to keep scarce and high valued resources.
