How is Deforestation of land for Agricultural Use Affecting
To cut, or not to cut? Deforestation is one way of getting more land for more agriculture production therefore producing more food and more agricultural products. No matter who you are or where you live, you have to eat and to do so requires agriculture. Most people live in urban areas where there is no land for growing food or crops therefore they rely on getting their food from other locations where the land is available. The land they are dependent upon may not have always been land for agriculture use. Land has been cleared to use for farming and obtaining food. Food in this case does not only relate to food that is grown in plant form but deforestation has been done in order to raise beef cattle for the meat and other animals as well. Although we benefit from the food and the products that are obtained from the land that is cleared we also face consequences due to deforestation. Deforestation can be defined as “a change in forest land use from forestry to other purposes, such that in it no longer functions as a forest ecosystem”(Gillis, Repetto 44).
