Character analysis of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

    Character list and analysis Major Characters Rosencrantz is a bumbling, ridiculous but harmless Elizabethan gentleman. He cannot remember his own name. He appears content with others in the decision making process He never wants to upset anyone, and does his best to avoid conflict at all costs. Guildenstern who is generally smarter and more worldly-wise than his friend Rosencrantz’s. Sarcastic, cynical and often irritated, he tries desperately to understand the world around him, with little success. Rosencrantz’s apparent indifference to any situation they might happen upon frequently bothers him. It is difficult for him to act without knowing, and this frequently incapacitates his ability to think for himself. The Player is the leader of a band of traveling actors. He cares little for honesty or straight-forwardness. He is willing to do just about anything to make money, and he is used to failure.
