Slim Hopes
"Slim Hopes"
The movie, Slim Hopes, was an eye-opener! Everything that Jean Kilbourne talked about in her movie were issues that I never really thought about, but now realize how true all of them are. Sterotypes in aspect of our every day lives, was the first topic she touched upon. A perfect example of this is any model by today's standards compared to a model even twenty years ago, and their change in sizes. Then she went on to talk about different body types, and what was common amoung normal females compared to these "fake" models. Magazines is another big outlet of advertising, that spends money so in return we'll spend money. What else is always on a girls mind? Food, and dieting. These two issues were also adressed. Now onto further identifying these issues, with some facts.
I never even realized how "slick" the advertising industry is. If you look at almost any ad, they all seem to be directed towards young people, and young teens espically. They want to grab us while we're young, and have money to spend on all of their products. We all want to look like that model on the front page, but what no one realizes is she doesn't even exsist.
