To Kill or Not to Kill
Imagine yourself in a room, 4 metres long by 2 metres wide. You're sitting on a metal bed bolted to the floor.
The bed has only a thin foam cushion. There are no windows in this room, only a small faint light emanates from
the ceiling. You spent everyday in this room, this room is your home; you have no choice, the very government
that protects you from forms of injustice made the choice for what they see in you as a perpetrator of evil deeds.
There is a small mesh screen through which your every action is watched constantly. Your only luxury is a shower
per week. You are not in any ordinary room; you are in a cell on death row; yet you are the only one who knows that
you are innocent. You feel that racial bias has put you behind bars and hope that it will not send you to the
gas chamber. You still believe in pray and in justice, but only just. As time passes, appeal after appeal fails
and despite yourself, you begin to lose faith in the legal system and in God. You dream the day when there you will
be offered the final meal of your choice. This will be the day, then your last visitors will arrive, and a priest will
pray with you before you go to meet your maker.
