Abortion:Pro-Choice
When a person thinks of everyday objects like ants, gunpowder, rocks, coat hangers, or even boiling water, I doubt illegal abortions comes to mind. But those were the ways to abort a child back in the day when abortion was not legal and women had to resort to the “back-alley” doctors. Women who have had illegal abortions remember the “dirty conditions, pain because of no anesthesia, the shame and guilt, the break up of their relationship, the ‘grinding’ and ‘snipping’ noises, and the squirting of blood and fluids” (Emmens 95). I believe that abortion should be legal because it is wrong to take away the rights to choose from a woman with her own mind and place a life-changing decision on the few cells of a fetus.
The right to privacy, whether it be founded in the Fourteenth Amendment’s concept of personal liberty and restrictions upon state action or in the Ninth Amendment’s reservation of the rights of the people, is broad enough to encompass a woman’s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy.
