Angels in America: An Appropriate Perspective

Spotlights narrowed the audience's attention to one specific spot on the stage where the audience finds the dialogue between the characters. When action stops on one area of the stage, my eye naturally flowed to the next area where the action picked up. I was not distracted at all by the other actors who were still sitting still on the stage, and therefore, I was able to focus all of my attention towards the section of the theater that I was intentionally directed towards. The use of lighting in the scenes with Prior in his bed created an atmosphere of confusion and mystery. The pink lights and eerie voice of the messenger drew my attention into the scenes, and the student who played Prior effectively placed all of the characters emotions in clear view. Even though the audience said nothing during these scenes, a dialogue did exist between them and this audience. During these scenes, the atmosphere allows him to get completely carried away with the emotions of fear and distress that his character is supposed to display.
