Pope Pius XXI and the Holocaust
Issue C – For years the Vatican has struggled to defend its pope during World War II, Pope Pius XII, against claims he was anti-Semitic and did not do enough to save Jews from the Holocaust, Examine the case.
This discussion is about Pope Pius XII and the claims that he was anti-Semitic and he and the Catholic religion did not do enough to help the Jews during the Holocaust. Questions that arise when examining this case are if Pope Pius XII did actually sit back and not do anything during the Holocaust, did he help the Nazis or, did he make an effort to help the Jewish race against Hitler. This is an issue because the Catholic’s are known to help others and when it came to the Holocaust, many people were shocked that the Jews were not helped the slightest bit by the Catholic leader, Pope Pius XII.
In recent years, the media has accused the Catholic Church of either helping the Nazis or being silent during the Holocaust. The new Holocaust Museum in New York unfairly criticised Pope Pius XII for being silent during World War II. The 1998 January 26th issue of TIME magazine claimed that the Catholic Church apologised for “collaborating with the Nazis during World War II.” A book titled, ‘Three Popes and the Jews
