Okra Stew
For people living in the Midwest we hardly ever have a chance to try new and different foods. I myself had never even heard of the vegetable Okra until two years ago when I met Del. Okra is a small green vegetable that looks very similar to a green Chile, however it is not spicy nor can you purchase it in fresh form here in the Midwest. Canned or frozen are the only two options available to us here. I prefer the frozen kind since the canned seems almost like mush. I suggest trying this stew; it is a favorite among the Kurdish people over in the Middle East. They make this stew only for special and important family gatherings.
First you will need to purchase the ingredients for this recipe. Steak, such as a large round steak is the best option or cubed beef if you are in a hurry. You will also need one large green pepper, one medium sized onion, one bag of frozen okra, two celery stalks, about one teaspoon of coriander, two twelve ounce cans of tomato sauce, 3 large tomatoes, one bag of rice, your choice if it is minute or slow cooking, two cloves of garlic, salt, pepper, parsley, thyme, two chicken bullion cubes, and one lemon.
